5. Nitrous oxide

The former name is nitrous oxide N 2 O. The characteristics of this gas are close to those of CO 2 . The liquid boils at -88 ˚C under 1 atm. It can be stored in cylinders in liquefied form under pressure (pressure of 44 bar at 15 ˚C), or in the liquid phase in vacuum-insulated tanks (or with more conventional insulation) identical to those used for CO 2 .However, as N 2 O is oxidizing, the use of insulation that is too easily combustible should be ruled out (compatibility tests to be carried out).
