3. Dynamics of static components
In order to characterize the vibration of an internal combustion engine, we study its deformation, which can result from three possibilities:
deformation due to rigid body movements of the motor block. Rigid body movements generate low deformation and stress, and are only critical for flexible motor assembly and pipe and hose connections;
deformation of the engine block called "global vibration" (e.g. bending/twisting of the engine block);
deformation of components known as "local vibration" (e.g. bending of the air cooler in relation to its attachment points on the engine block).
