5. Heat transfer studies

In this section, we examine the different modes of heat exchange, review a few models and give orders of magnitude for exchange coefficients, as well as a number of more or less empirical formulas, based on dimensional considerations, for determining these coefficients.

5.1 Different exchange modes

Heat exchange between the walls of a cylinder or tube and the gases contained therein is both convective and radiative.
