5.1 General

In the mind of a potential user considering the purchase of a gas turbine, the maintenance of this equipment is very often a matter of concern.

Many people who only know about gas turbines from information about aircraft engines have the image of a complex machine requiring constant care. While it's true that aviation maintenance and overhaul programs are demanding, because they have to meet rigorous safety standards and are aimed at machines designed without excessive margin, the same cannot be said for turbines intended for industrial use. To conclude that the reliability of industrial turbines is inferior to that of aviation turbines is a step too far.
