The range of industrial products stored is vast, and their characteristics vary widely. They can be stable, volatile, neutral, toxic, corrosive, flammable, and so on. Most often, they combine several of these properties. In most cases, they are considered environmentally hazardous products. Their storage is generally regulated and controlled by the authorities.

Of all the properties that characterize these products, there's one that's essential to understand: the degree of volatility of the liquid at storage temperature, which determines the quantity of vapor emitted at the surface of the stored liquid. This property determines the type of tank to be used.
