3.1 Prolonged relaxation

The conventional connecting rod-crank conversion system described in the previous section has the same volumetric ratio in compression as in expansion. This means that it is not possible to expand the entire volume of gas trapped in compression to intake pressure if the cylinder filling is fully exploited. Various options are available to extend the gas expansion to the maximum (figure 14 ).
