2.1 Ignition sequence and crankstar
The second key parameter in multi-cylinder engine architecture is the choice of ignition sequence. The sequence of cylinder ignitions during an engine cycle is a decisive parameter for characterizing the excitation of internal combustion engines. For standard configurations up to 6 cylinders in-line and 12 cylinders V-shaped, the number of possible ignition orders is still reasonable and sufficiently covered in the literature.
