According to a report by the European Patent Office (EPO), entitled "Patents and additive manufacturing – Trends in 3D printing technologies": "Europe and the USA have a strong lead in additive manufacturing innovation". Indeed, between 2010 and 2018, 47% of additive manufacturing patent applications filed with the EPO came from European inventors or European companies, with the USA in second place with 35%.
