1. What are the safety objectives for Generation IV?

The aim of this article is to highlight the main safety and radiation protection issues of the reactor concepts selected by GIF, irrespective of their advantages or disadvantages in relation to the other GIF criteria. To this end, the general safety and radiation protection objectives formulated in November 2010 by the WENRA association for "new power reactors" were taken as a reference. Indeed, although these objectives are aimed at Generation III reactors (and will be subject to possible revision by 2020), they appear to be the most relevant in the absence of specific documents for Generation...
