3. IT system efficiency: yes, but...

Over the past two decades, we've demonstrated the usefulness and efficiency of IT systems. Commonplace? Yes, of course, because it's hard to see why what is so obviously true in all human activities shouldn't also be true in the nuclear field. Except that the requirements of the nuclear industry (isn't nuclear safety 10 times more ambitious than that of the aeronautics industry?) are at the antipodes of current IT industry practices, which are by far the most opaque and least sustainable.

So how do we reconcile the formidable capabilities offered by IT :

  • with the obligation of "operational safety", the guarantee of which is a sine qua non of any nuclear project;

  • and with the profitability required of any investment, especially one on the scale of a nuclear power plant?
