5. Conclusion

Instrumentation is an essential part of nuclear reactor safety, ensuring that the chain reaction is controlled and that safety criteria are met.

Since reactor power generation is linked to neutron flux, neutron instrumentation is essential for these reactors. This type of detector is based on various signal generation principles, starting with a neutron-matter interaction and ultimately leading to an electrical signal that can be traced back indirectly to the intensity of the neutron flux. Knowledge of the signal generation principle enables the signal to be interpreted and, if necessary, corrected and processed. This signal can then be used to trigger automatic actions to protect the core in the event of an incident or accident.
