2.1 Transporting radioactive materials

The nuclear fuel cycle industry generates numerous shipments of radioactive materials, both within the borders of the countries concerned and between different countries. These materials come in a wide variety of forms. They are mainly : uranium concentrates from mines (yellow cake), uranium fluorides (UF ₆ or UF ₄ ), uranium oxides (UO ₂ , U ₃ O ₈ ), natural, depleted or enriched, uranyl nitrate (URT, §
