VVER reactors (Russian acronym meaning: light water-cooled, light water-moderated power reactor) are classified into two main categories:

  • 440 MW reactors;

  • 1,000 MW reactors.

The nuclear instrumentation systems for these two types of reactor differ little in principle. VVER reactors are characterized in their original design by a large number of measurement chains. Figure 10 shows the organization of the nuclear instrumentation system.
