3. Waste in France

Detailed annual reports, or periodic global reports, on waste production are kept up to date by all waste producers, including producers in non-electronic fields, even though these fields are highly disparate. Waste production data for the various stages of the fuel cycle are not always brought down to the same common denominator. Data for the upstream part of the cycle are expressed in TWhe, while those for the downstream part are expressed per tonne of reprocessed spent fuel. There is no temporal correspondence between these data, as the tonne of spent fuel reprocessed at a given time corresponds to fresh fuel prepared twenty years earlier, itself manufactured with uranium mined much earlier, somewhere in the world. It is therefore difficult to associate the quantities of raw waste and primary packages produced for the current production of 1 TWhe nuclear power, other than statistically....
