5. Conclusion

ST's strategy can only be achieved in several decades' time. This is because, although the time needed for political decisions is long, the time needed for any change of direction in nuclear power is on the scale of one or two generations, especially if the change is profound. ST can only be considered in the context of the use of fission energy for at least one, if not two, centuries, because the processes involved are lengthy and the benefits must be sufficiently exploited in relation to the investments made. This would be difficult to justify for an electronuclear program limited to the operation of one generation of nuclear reactors, for example. The implementation of ST requires a strong and continuous political will, both for the pursuit of research and for the setting up and operation of resources.
