6. A few examples

In this section, we bring together illustrations from the practice of nuclear data evaluation.

6.1 Role of coupled states

To illustrate the influence of coupled states in the optical potential calculation, figure 38 shows the correlation between the structures of the spectrum of neutrons emitted in the n+ 238 U reaction and the coupled levels. The contribution of direct inelastic cross sections to the spectrum of emitted neutrons is clearly visible. This spectrum is highly sensitive to the detail of the modeling of these reactions in the optical model.
