4. Current developments

The Russian Federation's objective of significantly increasing the share of nuclear power in electricity production and developing its export capacities has led the Russian government to organize the nuclear industry as a whole at state level. Under a decree issued by the Government of the Russian Federation on September 8, 2001, individual companies in the nuclear sector were absorbed into Rosenergoatom. These include both nuclear power plants in operation and nuclear units under construction, as well as companies providing repair, maintenance, training and management consultancy services for nuclear power plants. Rosenergoatom is a branch of the state-owned Rosatom group, another branch of which comprises nuclear power plant designers such as OKB-Gidropress (VVER), Nikiet (RBMK), OKBM (fast neutron reactors) and the Atomenergoproekt (plant engineering) centers, the two main ones being...
