4. Deployment of post-Fukushima measures at French nuclear power plants
Given the scale of the modifications to French nuclear power plants defined in the wake of the Fukushima accident, and the number of facilities involved, deployment of the "hard core" cannot be completed in a short timeframe. EDF has therefore defined a three-phase deployment schedule.
The first phase, which will be largely operational by the end of 2014, is primarily aimed at reinforcing reactor robustness in the event of a total loss of electrical power or cooling (cold source). The associated measures will make it possible to cope with this type of situation over longer periods than those adopted up to 2011, and also considering that all the reactors on a site could be affected. For example, an emergency generator has already been installed in each unit to provide power to part of the instrumentation and control system, the control room lighting and certain instrumentation...
