2. Reactor and associated technologies

The previous paragraph dealt with physical research; this paragraph is devoted to the reactor. More than the reactor, which does not yet exist, it is the problem of the reactor that is obviously at issue, and it seems useful to quickly show what the following discussion is based on.

For a long time, fusion has sought to define, with some precision, what the reactor it is supposed to propose might look like. What's more, in order to justify itself, fusion is sometimes pressed to do or redo this work. So we have studies, regularly updated, which set out the contours and sometimes the details of what a fusion reactor could be. One of these studies was carried out for construction purposes (the ITER project); it is therefore the most comprehensive study to date, and plays a central role in FCM.
