Radial loads from the shell are transmitted to the foundation via the tires, rollers and bearings (figure 2 ).

2.1 Roller stations. Rollers

The radial load on the furnace, Q , is assumed to be uniformly distributed over the two rollers, i.e. a load per roller of :

Qg=Q2cosα

or : Q g = 0.577 Q for α = 30°.
