2. Selection criteria for heat and cold transfer fluids

2.1 Criteria related to the fluid's area of use

The first criterion for choosing a heat- or cold-transfer fluid is based on the operating temperature range, i.e. the minimum and maximum operating values.

  • The minimum value for use is the freezing temperature. This is obviously a limit that must not be exceeded. In many practical cases, we prefer to use the pumpability threshold, when this is known: this is the temperature below which it is impossible to use a centrifugal pump, corresponding to a dynamic viscosity limit of 300 mm 2 /s (i.e. 300 cSt).
