2. Natural light indoors

2.1 Capture, transmit, distribute

To optimize the natural lighting ambience inside a space, it is necessary to understand the path that a ray of light emitted by the sun follows to a point in that space. As mentioned in the previous chapter, natural light has three components: the direct component emitted by the sun, the diffuse component emitted by the sky and the external reflected component emitted by the external environment.

  • The first step in daylighting is to capture natural light at the opening in the envelope that acts as the boundary between the exterior and interior. This depends on :
