2. Elevator types

2.1 Electric elevators

The rotation of an electric motor is transformed into linear motion to move the cabin:

  • Bonded systems

    The electric motor rotates, either directly or via a gearbox, a grooved pulley supporting the cables or belts connecting the cabin to a counterweight. The frictional forces of the cables or belts on the pulley enable movement (figure 1 ).
