4. Caulking

We'll now look at each stage in the application of caulking compounds.

1. Check the condition of the substrate: check cohesion, porosity and geometric regularity. The substrate must be dry (beware of condensation in cool, damp weather). The substrate must be sound, solid, non-friable and clean.

2. Storage conditions for caulking compounds: they should be stored in a room at a temperature of between 10 and 30°C (or 40°C max. in hot climates). The storage life of polyurethane, thiokol and one-component silicone sealants is reduced when temperatures exceed 25°C. For example, it will be 1 year at 18°C and only 6 months at 35°C.

3. Climatic conditions: the optimum application conditions recommended by the supplier must be observed, generally at an ambient temperature of between +5 and +40°C, sheltered from rain, on a...
