1. Type of connection
Examination of the connection made (cf. ) shows a discontinuity between the contact surfaces (cf. ).
The contact zone between two parts has an average surface finish. Note the large number of empty spaces separating the two parts: contact is punctual.
This type of connection characterizes mechanical assemblies that achieve and maintain simple contact between two parts by means of an external element whose elastic deformation ensures lasting clamping of the parts. In practice, this type of mechanical assembly is achieved by screwing (removable) or riveting (permanent), as well as by deforming one or more of the assembly's constituent parts (as in the case of crimping, clipping or stamping). These assemblies are permanent.
