5. Ventilation and summer comfort
RT 2012 defines categories of buildings in which it is possible to ensure a good level of comfort in summer without having to resort to an active cooling system. These categories (CE1 and CE2) depend on occupancy type and location (climatic zone, altitude, proximity to noise zones).
For these buildings, regulations stipulate that the hottest temperature reached in the premises during a sequence of 5 very hot summer days must not exceed a threshold that varies from region to region.
In addition to the fact that this requirement will improve the comfort of occupants of future buildings in periods of high heat, and thus help to limit the impact of heatwaves, it is also an important measure for limiting the development of air conditioning.
