4. DMB Radio system
Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is a satellite (S-DMB) and terrestrial (T-DMB) broadcasting technology developed in South Korea for transmitting multimedia content (TV, radio, multimedia) to mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and GPS navigators. The first mobile terrestrial TV service was launched in December 2005, with rapid success: over 60 million DMB receivers have been sold in South Korea. New versions were later specified: AT-DMB (Advanced T-DMB), which doubles the data rate with hierarchical modulation (T-DMB base layer + enhancement layer with additional services) and a scalable video service, then Smart DMB in January 2013, offering a video-on-demand service and improved video definition.
