Every year, flat-panel displays take a larger and larger share of the display market. Although there are still a number of technological problems to be solved, such as improving the lifespan of certain types of organic materials, or reducing the dispersion of poly-Si TFT characteristics required for the production of active matrices, the future of OLED displays looks "bright". Indeed, these screens potentially offer all the qualities you'd expect from displays designed for graphics or video applications. It is estimated that active-matrix OLED displays will initially be dedicated to small-format applications, such as cell phones and digital cameras. But this technology is also compatible with the production of large-area displays for the TV and PC monitor markets.
