6. Conclusion

Implementing UHD takes time, as it depends both on its inclusion in production chains, the management of data rates to ensure its transport to production and distribution, and the level of penetration of UHD screens in homes. Innovations such as UHD definition, HDR contrast ratio, WCG color gamut and high frame rate are not arriving together like a big bang, leading to a fragmented installed base. What's more, the HDR format war at display level doesn't make the situation any easier. Another factor holding back the development of UHD-1 is the announcement of UHD-2 (or "8K"), which can stall broadcast companies, tempted to wait for this "next step" before investing.
