2.1 Non-acoustic detection and its limitations

Acoustics are currently used for almost all DSMs. This operational dominance of sonar is a consequence of the many physical properties of ocean water, as described in detail at [K 170] . The question is whether the exploitation of other physical quantities could render sonar, and indirectly the present presentation, obsolete.
