3. The role of the soundtrack in the sense of immersion

In what follows, the focus will not be on the interactions between immersion and other forms of experience, but on the tools available to the director to facilitate the viewer's adhesion and involvement.

These tools are, above all, elements of audiovisual writing. For the purposes of this chapter, however, we will confine ourselves exclusively to sound components, which can be divided into three categories:

  • the voices ;

  • sound effects ;

  • music.
