2.1 International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the oldest of the UN's specialized international organizations, founded in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union to enable the international operation of the telegraph. Since then, it has seen and assimilated the invention and development of the telephone, radio communications and broadcasting, radar and satellites.

The International Telecommunication Union is structured into a General Secretariat and three Directorates, which run the three Sectors of Radiocommunications, Telecommunication Standardization and Development.
