11. IPsec for IPv6 mobility
-
In the future, networks - both data networks and cellular networks - will evolve towards "all-IP", i.e. they will all eventually integrate the IP layer into their operations. As a result, user mobility can be handled by a single mobility protocol, and to date, the protocol best able to provide this mobility service is Mobile IPv6 .
This protocol enables users to receive data from anywhere on the Internet.
To achieve this, a "Home Agent" (HA) is defined for each mobile, responsible for registering the mobile's temporary address, corresponding to its current position on the network, and relaying all packets destined for the mobile. Each time it moves, the mobile must inform its HA of its new position.
