8. Conclusion
In this article, after a reminder of the different IPv6 address classes, we first describe the NDP mechanism required for communication between different nodes. This makes NDP as critical to IPv6 as ARP is to IPv4. In addition, thanks to NDP, the IPv6 protocol provides a new stateless address autoconfiguration service compared with the IPv4 protocol.
We then presented NDP's security flaws, as well as palliative but easy-to-implement protection solutions.
Finally, we describe the advanced and official protection solution for NDP, the SEND mechanism, and its limitations.
