3. Functional model

The functional model describes the means of accessing data and the operations that can be applied to it. The functional model is subdivided into two parts: basic operations and extended operations. While the former are standardized, the latter can, a priori, be designed independently. However, a number of extended operations are beginning to be regarded as standardized. The basic operations are summarized in table 2 .

The various operations offer more or fewer parameters, allowing you to refine your queries. For example, the search command takes the form of a query with a maximum of eight parameters, as shown in table 3 .
