3. NIS2 directive
NIS2 (Network and Information Security) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union in December 2022, with entry into force in October 2024.
According to the European Union's representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: "Fundamental rights, democracy and the rule of law must therefore be protected in cyberspace. Our freedom and prosperity increasingly depend on a strong and innovative Internet, which will continue to grow if private sector innovation and civil society foster its growth, but online freedom also requires security and safety. Cyberspace must be protected against incidents, malicious acts and abuse, and public authorities have an important role to play in ensuring a free and safe cyberspace".
