5. Conclusions

3D laser imaging can be used for a wide variety of applications in different fields, such as industry (inspection of manufactured objects, reverse engineering, civil engineering and public works, etc.), environmental monitoring (mapping of urban areas, forestry, etc.), robotics, autonomous navigation (obstacle detection, etc.) and, of course, security and defense, with greater distances of use (over a kilometer, for situation awareness, surveillance, targeting, etc.). Its ability to illuminate specific scenes makes it an attractive technology in conditions of low visibility or degraded vision, and the richness of 3D information makes it easier to process information for certain high-level functions such as guidance, "see and avoid", detection/recognition/identification... The emergence of learning techniques now enables processing adapted to real time, with low false alarm rates....
