6. Glossary

microscopie plein champ; widefield microscopy

Instrumental method for rapid observation of thin samples with a wide field of view and limited resolution, using binoculars or a camera. The image is visualized by phase contrast, interference contrast, polarization or fluorescence labeling.

confocal microscopy; confocal microscopy

Instrumental method for observing fluorescently labeled samples. Linear fluorescence is generated by a precise wavelength from a lamp or laser. Selection of the fluorescence from the focal plane by means of an iris gives the system a "confocal" character, enhancing resolution performance.

multiphoton microscopy; multiphoton microscopy

Instrumental method for observing samples that may be labeled or show a break in structural symmetry. Non-linear...
