3. Approaches to metallic optical nanosources

Several approaches to metallic optical nanosources have been developed. Most of these nanosources are amplified by plasmon resonance, but we'll see that this isn't always the case. We will also see that metallic nanosources can be used in two situations:

i) interaction with matter → local modification of matter ;

ii) local interaction with a system → far-field radiation, whose nature is a signature of this interaction, providing information about the latter.

3.1 All-metal optical nanosources

Several types of optical nanosources based on the use of all-metal nanomaterials (i.e. not coupled to materials of a different nature) have been developed and studied.
