3.1 Threshold systems

Self-detecting optronic systems process the electrical signal delivered by their detector to deduce, without human intervention, whether the radiation, message or object in question is present in their field of vision. These devices can be used for surveillance, intrusion detection, transmission/reception, telecommunications, telemetry, etc.

The decision (absence/presence) taken by such devices is based on various criteria, the most widely used of which is the comparison between the electrical signal delivered by the sensor (generally a voltage V) and a certain reference value V threshold (which may be fixed or variable over time), known as the "threshold".
