2. Laser displacement strategies for waveguide generation

As mentioned above, local modification of the refractive index is the building block for the manufacture of complex functions. This process is achieved by duplicating this index change in 3 dimensions by scanning the laser beam focused in the sample.

2.1 Direct scan

Several laser scanning strategies have been developed, enabling speeds of the order of millimeters per second to be achieved, opening the way to industrial-scale applications.
