3. LCA methodology

There is no single method for developing an LCA. ISO standards allow for flexibility in assessing environmental impacts. According to ISO, this methodology is built in 4 phases:

  • definition of study objectives and scope,

  • inventory: material and energy balances for life-cycle stages,

  • impact assessment: analysis of potential environmental impacts,

  • interpretation: review of results and recommendations.

3.1 Defining the objectives and scope of the study

This first phase defines the purpose and objective of the study, the boundaries of the life cycles studied and the Functional Unit (FU)
