1. Stretching

1.1 Principle

Drawing is a cold-forming process whereby a rolled blank, sometimes called a "stake", is passed through a die with a smaller cross-section and a shape appropriate to the profile and dimension to be obtained. This transformation takes advantage of the steel's plasticity and is accompanied by work-hardening (see § 1.3.1 ).
