In mass production, statistical control is used to reduce the frequency of inspection operations, measure system dispersion, continuously monitor critical parameters and make appropriate adjustments, reducing the need for sorting and reworking.

1.1 Acceptance controls

A foundry supplies around 30% of its sales with external products (excluding energy), a ratio that will be slightly higher for a non-ferrous foundry, due to the higher cost of metallic materials.
