2. Conclusions

In a sense, spinning design is an extremely rich case study for the design sciences:

  • the challenge of promoting innovative and even creative design is a real one;

  • the need to improve the intellectual design process is quantifiable (through desired productivity gains in spinning, for example);

  • data and knowledge management is one of our major competitive advantages;

  • the value of introducing new representation models is obvious, to support advances in both reasoning and the data and knowledge they implement.

In the other direction, design sciences provide a privileged framework for progress in managing and promoting innovation:
