4. Chemically hardened sand molding

4.1 General

In modern chemical-setting processes, using organic or mineral binders, the aim has been to eliminate the need for mold steaming or core baking, which lead to deformation, harm part quality and require considerable equipment (ovens for large molds, high-production mechanized ovens, etc.). What's more, these operations entail a great deal of handling, at a very high cost, both in the manufacture of single parts and in the production of mass-produced parts.
