5. Cost orders of magnitude
It is difficult to compare costs for the production of different parts, where the complexity of the coring and the volume of the areas to be machined can also be very different, and therefore have a major impact on the means of implementation.
However, we can give the following comparative orders of magnitude.
5.1 Blank casting
A given part in gray cast iron is less expensive than the same part in vermicular cast iron: the vermicular cast iron melting bed requires a low-sulfur melt supplemented by a magnesium treatment, resulting in a liquid metal price around 25% higher than that of gray cast iron. Milling is essentially the same for gray and vermicular cast irons.
