Observation of the sheet's surface condition before and after rubbing provides invaluable elements of interpretation from two points of view:
extrapolation of friction test results to pressure, speed or temperature conditions not accessible experimentally on tribometers;
transposition of results to industrial forming conditions and assessment of risks of degradation due to tool wear or "clogging" (excessive transfer).
