5. Surface coatings
A surface coating consists in replacing the original surface of a component with a new surface with properties better suited to its functional requirements. This substitution can involve a wide range of materials - polymers, metals, ceramics - and techniques. More specifically, we focus on coatings more geared towards tribological applications.
5.1 Polymer coatings – Plastic coating
Polymer coatings can be applied by various deposition techniques:
by electrostatic processes ;
with a blowtorch ;
fluidized bed ;
by projection ;
by bonding film to components ;
