5. Surface coatings

A surface coating consists in replacing the original surface of a component with a new surface with properties better suited to its functional requirements. This substitution can involve a wide range of materials - polymers, metals, ceramics - and techniques. More specifically, we focus on coatings more geared towards tribological applications.

5.1 Polymer coatings – Plastic coating

Polymer coatings can be applied by various deposition techniques:

  • by electrostatic processes ;

  • with a blowtorch ;

  • fluidized bed ;

  • by projection ;

  • by bonding film to components ;
