2.1 Lubrication regimes
Wear is mainly induced by direct contact between two solids sliding, pivoting or rolling on each other. The most effective method of minimizing wear is to interpose a fluid lubricant film (liquid or gas, i.e. low cission, figure 7 ) between the two parts.
